New Zealand is in the process of considering the repeal and replace of the Mental Health (Compulsory Assessment and Treatment) Act 1992. As part of the process the Ministry of Health released a discussion document in October 2021 called "Transforming our Mental Health Laws" https://www.health.govt.nz/publication/transforming-our-mental-health-law-public-discussion-documen , and opened a nationwide consultation. As part of that process, we meet as a community to discuss what our community vision is for transformation.
We are so very grateful for the many people who took time to share their understanding of the discussion document, who spent time considering what they would hope for any possible future laws, and came together to share these dreams, to find the space that could be considered a 'community vision'.
We are also very grateful to Fiona and Elin for their work on writing up these discussions and providing us with a document that we can use as reference point for what we want to journey towards into the future
